The Ups and Downs of Ja Morant

Updated: Jan 7

Ja Morant has taken the sports world by storm with his amazing play on the court. As we look at the future of this stellar athlete, we can’t ignore some of the obvious challenges to his decision-making process.

Although Ja is doing great things, the bar will continue to rise for him the farther along he goes. He will be expected to be consistently great as he goes, on and off the court. He can still do the high-flying acts we are all accustomed to him doing, but he will need to improve on his shooting and playmaking if he really wants to evolve into a consistent All-NBA talent.

With the highlighting acts Ja likes to do comes the major risk for injury, especially for someone of his slight size. That's why it's so imperative for him to develop that 3 point shot or even a midrange game to take some pressure off of the high-flying act.

While all those are important, it is equally important for Morant to improve off the court and hold himself to a high standard as well. If you don't know by now, Morant was seen flashing a gun briefly on Instagram Live, prompting him to be suspended for a second time in 3 months. It is imperative for Morant to be a model of positivity and consistency, especially as a face of not only the Memphis Grizzlies but also the NBA.

Morant has all the talent in the world and endless potential, but if he continues to put himself in these bad predicaments and spends more time off the court than on for self-inflicted wounds, he won't be able to access that potential. And that would be a shame.
